This is the last and hardest mission in the game by far. My plan was good. I go back and re-do the philippines missions on ace difficulty, which unlocks the P-61 Black Widow, the plane with which i completed this mission on ace difficulty way back in '05. That's what i did and successfully too. But when i came to do this mission for real, the game hadn't saved...Cue lots of swearing and throwing of things, for quite some time!
I decided not to do it again as i didn't want to waste any more time doing the same mission and finding out again that it didn't save. Instead i used a cheat code, which unlocks all the plane types. I dislike cheat codes and don't use them, but i was so pissed off about losing the save game that i felt justified on this occasion.
I also went back to keyboard and mouse for this mission as i couldn't tolerate the sensitivity of the gamepad controls anymore.

@arrowjoker You need to complete the entire game on ace difficulty to unlock every plane type. However, to get specific plane types you will need to complete the relevant mission on ace difficulty.
