On November 16, 2006, Alan "Hammer" Bloore suffered a very high complete spinal cord injury in a boating accident.

At that time, despite considerable efforts, Medical Science left no hope that Alan would ever walk again.

On March 22, 2011, Hammer visited Berkeley Bionics to try their eLEGS bionic exoskeleton, and the rest is history.
