Nova - Einstein's Big Idea / a.k.a. E=mc² (2005)
This film adaptation of David Bodanis' book explains the components of the equation e=mc² in small episodes about the life and work of Michael Faraday, Antoine Lavoisier, Albert Einstein, Émilie du Châtelet and Lise Meitner. I'm very interested in physics and history, but "popular science" isn't my cup of tea, I'm afraid. And I think it would make more sense to explain the history of physics in chronological order, because scientists always influence each other. But it's a nice film (more fiction than science, but no science fiction) with lots of good actors and worth watching.
You can find more information about Samuel West at my friend's blog:

Well, Sam is responsible for the only really funny scenes in this film. I do appreciate that, because for me that's the only thing that counts. But you're right, you can do pretty well without this film. Most of us learnt the scientific background at school anyway and the rest of it reminded me of these childrens' education programmes.
