I never liked Jeeps, and American cars in general, but I drove my sister's boyfriend's Liberty, and it was pretty cool. I think this car would be great for me with FDII. I'm no hardcore offroader, but my friend and I have fun going in some muddy hills or gravel. I'd love to get this thing dirty and have some fun.
I mean, I ain't going anywhere in my Sentra, haha.

What size engine?

for being a soft roader, i guess it's the most capalable softroader in the market

looks good but as a GC owner and fan i just couldn't go with the patriot....
the 2011 upgrades look interesting an djeep has raised the car by 1"...shame they didn't copy mpoar's extreme patriot and go 2" higher
the 2.2L mercedes engine in europe will be a blast though, well done jeep for that

@beno7398 haha i did the same only I got a colorado z71 and its too new for me to really justify taking it to the more serious trails. I'm most likely going to get another rig (much older and cheaper) If you want a serious rig get something you dont mind beating on XD

I really love my 2008 Trail Rated Patriot which I got to replace my 2003 Liberty. The fuel economy is very good, but it's no Liberty.
I think it will do okay in the snow and I feel that the interior is done on the cheap compared to the Liberty.
It is more of a Jeep car than anything else.

I bought a Patriot because I wanted a car that could handle Light offroading and was good on road.
Now I regret it. I want a Real offorader now. Wasted my money on the patriot :(

Best use of ESP in mud?
Yesterday, I found the ESP system in my Patriot saved me, when I was out off-roading and ended up in a gumbo mud puddle that was deeper than I thought.
It took about 10 minutes for me to back out, because it would just creep back 1/2 inch at a time. It seemed like the engine / transmission was maxed out as I did this. I thought about turning off the ESP, but was afraid of starting the wheels spinning.
Any suggestions for next time for me?

...I thought the Patriot has an elec rear diff from wat I've read up - wouldn't this make it a 4X4, not an AWD?
-
...I also have that problem lol.
I had to almost tie them up in a knot on the weekend to stop them from scraping the ground until I can get them fixed next week haha.
How do you like the Patriot overall? Seems like a lot of fun to drive.

Its been a great vehicle for me, its no wrangler but I never got it to do hardcore off roading, the Freedom Drive 2 Offroad package is good if you want to get into a little bit of trouble. The 4x4 (really awd) system is great and the limiting factor from my experience is the stock tires and the relatively small ground clearance. Other than that its wonderful, and gets great mileage too (26 city and about the same on the highway...CVT transmission)

Not claiming to be off road, just showing how the 4wd system works in slick conditions
