This time around on "Tiny Yellow House", Deek decided to mess around with passive solar heat so as to warm the always-cold front foyer of his home. The result: a smallish, closeable, passive solar collector that fits into a window opening. Its not rocket science (and it NEVER will be here on "Tiny Yellow House") but it does work- even in January, in New England.

  • Cool design. So did that heater actually work?

  • Very nice. Thanks!

  • @noah279878582 It is hard but I can....... KIPKAY. No but both are awesome.

  • I know you! you're that wickedly awesome guy I meet at every concert I go to!

  • i cant decide if i like kipkay or TYH better. :s

  • Nice video. How hard would it be to add a fan that runs on solar power and turns off if the temp is below 68 degrees?

  • @kkklot42 it has

  • @pFOHRpyro what joke? i was serious. if you took it another way then hey, maybe you have some secrets

  • Awesome idea! I'm going to try to use this to heat up a shed which is essentially abandoned in winter due to the freezing temps up north where I'm stuck. Forever. :(

  • Awesome invention but it doesn't look very windproof. That little stick prop works in nice weather but if you start to get a gale force wind running through it could be an issue. Routing out some notches so it fits into the lid would help or a hook and eye would do the trick. I would also silicone caulk the pane of glass in to make sure that the heat stays in and the water stays out. Snow cover could be an issue too. How much has the temperature increased inside your foyer?
