His mouthpiece was a Strathon adjustatone, the ligature was "built in". Tom Scott was using the same one for a while.
Personally I like the sound of his Yamaha and Strathon much more than his current setup. But that's just me, I've always had a hard time with change! :)
The story I remember hearing was his Yamaha and Strathon were stolen, and Pete LaPlaca who owned LA Sax at the time gave him new gear.(tenor and mpc). I love this CD. Saw him LIve when he was on tour with it, it was an incredible show> He had gone to the Carnegie Deli in NYC (he was a Vegetarian at the time) and had a corned Beef on Rye, that night he said he changed the name of "In Your Face" to "Gastronomic Distress." He was a blast.
I wonder how he's doing financially. His keyboard player, Ron Reinhardt (and brother Dave) both live in my area here in the Tampa area. I know Ron will fly out to LA for a couple days at a time. Given that some smooth jazz players are doing the group thing, like Elliott and Braun, the Sax Pack, etc........makes me wonder how well in fact he really is doing.

Perhaps in his old tower of power days he did, you may be right.
I know for certain during his "solo" career, he was all Yamaha, then switched to LA Sax.

I saw an old Tower of Power concert and Richard played a Selmer M6 on that, so this was during his pro-career!
He nowadays plays a LA sax moutpiece (copy of guardala)
