The Japanese knife manufacturer G. Sakai is known as an excellent quality OEM for western brands (Spyderco, Al Mar, and others), and unfortunately their own knives are less known in the west. Here we have a look at a very interesting fixed blade, the GS-4 Sabi Knife 1, which is one of the few fixed blades made with the totally stainless H-1 steel. We also compare it with the excellent Spyderco Moran. I think that the Sabi 1 knife merits your attention.

  • Nice review, thank you!

You always show us interesting, uniqe blades. :)

Where did you buy this knife?

    I'm also considering a G. Sakai (Sabiknife 4, the yellow santoku) ,

but it's very hard to find Sakai knives in webshops, especially without insane prices in Euros or in Pounds. :/

  • @atokombeled Hello, google for:

    g. sakai knife japan-blades

And you'll find the webshop where I bought mine. Cheers!

  • Great videos! Lovely to see most of your collection are proper gentlemen knives. I hate the stupid "tactical" knives made by the Americans and I think it makes the owner look like a complete moron!

Anyhow, in your opinion, who makes the best and finest quality gentlemen's knifes in the world? Also who is the finest European knife maker in your view?

  • @powermugu My fave modern gentlemen brand is Klotzli see my reviews. Moki & Mcusta are also very nice, and so is the Chris Reeve Mnandi - though I prefer Klotzli. Very precise, very high tech. William Henry is popular in USA but often kitsch. For a traditional look check out Robert Klaas, Case and G.E.C. And for little money an all-metal Victorinox Pioneer. Klotzli is the finest European maker in my opinion, though I would also consider Fontenille-Pataud and (if you're rich) Atelier Graveline.

  • @MrDagon007 Great information! One more question: I want to buy a fine Laguiole knife. I have narrowed it down to "Fontenille-Pataud" or "Laguiole en Aubrac". Which of those two make a better quality Laguiole knife?

  • @powermugu Both are very good - I have both brands. Just take the one you think is most beautiful. Next to the classic slipjoint laguioles which both brands offer, Fontenille-Pataud makes a very chic backlock variant as well (and also smaller and bigger gentlemen variants too); I can recommend this variant, my video review is at v=92Bs0lUsHSI . And I have another laguiole clip at v=tWc3fefuRM0 where I show the Aubrac as well.
