Excerpt from "Adagio" from: Sonata for Cello Solo, Op. 8(Zoltan Kodaly) played by Pierre Fournier
From: VAI DVD 4356 The Art of Pierre Fournier
Pierre Fournier (1906-1985) was renowned for his elegant tone and impeccable musicianship. He was regarded among his contemporaries as a true aristocrat of the cello. In 1959 and 1960, Fournier visited the studios of Radio-Canada in Montreal for two television recitals: one, a program of music for cello and piano (with Guy Bourassa, piano), featured sonatas by Debussy and Francoeur, and the Adagio and Allegro, Op. 70, by Schumann; the other appearance included two major works for solo cello, the Bach Suite No. 3 and the Kodaly Sonata, Op. 8. 76 min., B & W.

  • wow i wish i had a cello like that, where you can play way up on the d string like that, and have it sound like the a string (0:52)

  • @munkybrain

didn't mean legitimate in that aspect. I mean that starker's kodaly is the probably the best i've heard. and since you implied that you're new to kodaly, i wanted to make a friendly recommendation.

  • @xXTiberiusXx yes i've heard some of starker's some time in the past year. Will be going for another listen. i don't think some music is 'legitimate' and some isn't, though.

  • @munkybrain
