Based on eyewitness written accounts. In the 17th century, a Bulgarian Christian region is selected by the Ottoman rulers to serve as an example of conversion to Islam. A Janissary who was kidnapped from the village as a boy now serving the Ottoman sultan is sent to force the reluctant inhabitants to convert. The Bulgarian christians have to chose between physical annihilation and losing their spiritual identity. Ultimately torture, violence, and rebellion break out. Based on real events and the novel "Time of Parting" (Vreme Razdelno) by Anton Donchev.

The novel is based on two individual eyewitness written accounts - by the priest Aligorko and the Venetian. The resulting text is a translation of the original French and Old Bulgarian (Old Church Slavonic) texts. All names, characters and events appear in the original manuscripts.

  • my friends please believe me Turks are not people whı just killing to people. if it was like this the ottman empire could not live longer. instead turks gave all the people, who live unter its contrıol, many rightd and so they lived long time peacefully. believe me ny frienf. this film just a propaganda.

  • @tarihli

unfortunately belief can only go so far. it's in folklore and songs. not only on this movie.

The song that is on Voyager spacecraft "Izlel e delyo haidutin" is about a rebel against the ottomans who tells the Turks not to attempt to convert his aunts or they will pay....and that's just one of them.

So thank you for your contribution but just unsubstantiated statements are useless here. We may forgive but we will not forget...

  • hey was there some of the movie cut out of the first part of this i saw this movie before and his mom was raped and killed by the turks when he was taken away as a boy wile he watched

  • @allenco65

you may be right. this is the DVD release. in theaters it may have been different. it was quite long time i saw the original cinema release so i don't recall now.

  • @allenco65

actually it's Manol's mother that is raped not Karaibrahim's. Manol was an adopted son and he was not taken away to serve like Karaibrahim (I forget his original Christian name)

lol...yeah...that is some logic there. the reason there are that many muslims is because the peoples on the continent resisted.

Perhaps you will also say that the armenian genocide is also propaganda. That is the first officially recognized instance of genocide in the modern era - 20th century. get some proper education in history.

  • yeah man i watched the whole thing it's a masterpiece much more real than american movies

  • @tarihli

Dude, It was going to be perfect if what you say was true, but reality is different. We were prospering and had a great culture, but you came, destroyed everything and killed more than 50% of the population. It was done do to several reasons:

1st this is part of YOUR understandings for war. When you conquer some1 you kill to make sure that the one left alive will be too scared to riot.

2nd you destroy (fortresses, church, solid buildings) to make sure we can't occupy when you're gone.
