RE: "just play guitar": like telling a French Horn player to play trumpet instead of a descant double horn - not the same instrument, not the same sound or feel.
Extend-range bass is relatively new & often mis-understood, even by bassists. I talked briefly w/ Eddie Jackson of Queensrÿche (5-str: B-E-A-D-G) after a gig; told him I play 5-str: E-A-D-G-C, he said, "Doesn't that get in the way of the guitars?"
Not when you pair w/ a mandolin!

That really is a cool sound, Ben! That high-F adds a sweet melodic register.

Why? Let people play what they like to play. I'm not a guitarist, although I have a few and bang around on them.

lol, I'm not a very good upright player, I do enjoy it though, I may post some upright clips at some point. That's my Carvin LB76, currently tuned E-F in straight 4ths. Wound .022 for an F that I'm using for Cello Suite # 6.
