  • The Ballad of Baby Does and Le Nozze di Figaro are my favorite operas and,not surprisingly,my first immersion into the art form.Since then,I love opera.Baby has never gotten her due in enough major opera houses: great music and libretto with 3 fantastic principal roles.A certain undeserved snobbery must exist against it.I was in the audience of this performance. The sudden avalanche of snow dumped on Ms. Welting was surely a mistake or cruel joke. She had the grace to remain composed, bless her.

  • This opera. Is so friggin' sad. Amazing work.

  • Love this opera. First time seeing this video, Ruth Welting was perfect. Thanks for posting this. This isn't the last time I'll

    watch it.

  • I think the snow was used because the real Baby Doe was found dead and frozen while chained to the entrance of Horace's Matchless Mine. She did that to show her faithfulness to her husband - even against the beliefs that she was just after his money.

  • Exquisite. I remember seeing this on TV when I was a teenager and how that ending just destroyed me. How wonderful to see this again here! Thanks, Kyrltoppa!

  • Thanks for posting this. Ruth Welting is one of my all-time favorites. Thanks again!
