I did not say they were not good ideas. I just wanted to explain to you that conservatives in this country are treat European idea's as awful and un-American. Whereas our liberals are willing to look at some of the ideas. Generally the conservatives are in the rural parts of our country, and the liberals in the urban populace. I consider myself a moderate on the American spectrum, a conservative democrat. But on the European spectrum you might just see me as a conservative.

It has been discussed in britain the possibillity of prescribing heroin to long term addicts. in some areas 80%of crime is linked to heroin and this would eradicate most of that crime. Your stance on being anti-european, pro usa doesnt make sense, you are saying if its a better idea but not an american idea then it cant be used! You should look to Europe for political ideas we seem to have got it right where america has failed, putting young men in prison for weed is a disgrace.

Drugs do cause crime because people need money for their habits. Making them criminals only addicts who obtain money for their habit legally should be able to be able to have the option to go to rehab. Otherwise you are criminal all the same. As far is what is ridiculous to Europeans, a lot of Americans pride themselves on not being European so that doesn't help. We avoid socialism, universal healthcare, and liberal drug laws because the U.S is much more conservative as a whole than Europe.

attributed to substance abuse, imprisoning these people does not address the problem and inevitably only leads to more crime. I understand that the USA imprisons people for possession of marajuana. This to a european is ridiculous and i myself could have been incarcerated for this offence. I a law obiding citizen and not a threat to my community Your war on drugs doesn't work, has never worked. Can you explain to me the benefits of putting drug users in prison. For what is this policy trying to achieve. In the UK even people who are caught in possession of the highest catagory of drugs eg heroin cocaine, are not sent to prison, simply because this neither benefits the public or the offender. Drug addiction is a health issue just as addiction to alcohol is a health issue. The purpous of prison is to protect the public, and whilst i am fully aware of the amount of crime... NEXT COMMENT

let me get this straight. obama wants to ban all handguns and assault rifles, mantain the same policy on background checks we have now, maintain the same rule on death penalty and reward drug users by not putting them in jail, rather allowing them to "rehabilitate" in the same environment they were in with easier access to drugs. explain how this makes any sense. by the way, if he is so against "George Bush policies" why is half his argument on "change" the exact same policies? makes no sense
