@AussieEvil You tell 'em Aussie! That'll teach 'em - seriously, who gives a rat's ass? If a news' channels intro is pissing you off, then I suggest you pay attention to the ACTUAL news. Far more important things going on in this world to be concerned about that some silly intro.

The old theme sounded way too dated in HD/digital. Some of the synth instruments were starting to stand out in not a good way. I wish they would have rerecorded the old theme with real instruments, but instead they went with a completely new arrangement, which has an awesome close and bumper cues. I do agree, though, that the open is a little bland.

I live in the Chi and I'm happy that WLS has used the same music for 18 years. It's just sad that KTVU had to get new music after using the same music for almost 23 years. The Randall theme was a part of their history, that should have never been touched. It was a fabolous theme. I love KTVU for being the only FOX station that doesn't follow the tabloid model, that many other FOX Station has done. But to me, changing its music was one of the Worst moves this station has done.

YUCK! It sounds so canned. I listing to the package on the 615 site, and it plays through better. KTVU is still my favorite as far as the news dept, but they have blown it three times: 1. This new music 2. Dave Clark 3.Letting Mark Curtis go

And one more thing, stations need to stick with their traditions as it comes with their music. As you see right now, many station groups and O&Os and standardizing everything, music, graphics and in some degree, their news sets just to save a company a whole loot of money. When stations do that, they lose their identity, indiviuality, locally, credibility & creativity, and it ain't worth it. Sinclair, Hearst, Belo, Media General, FOX, NBC, Gannett, Scripps & now CBS have done it and that's sad!

Don't get me wrong, I like Icon by 615, but KTVU had one of their finest, distinctive music brands that were recognizable to all of the Bay Area residents. I know many out-of-market folks wanted to see KTVU changed their theme, even some nuts that want to see them use the overly-used FOX O&O News Package (that does suit the content & characteristics of KTVU). I myself loved the theme. It's a bit better than the original VTS FOX O&O Music when FOX made its start in the mid 80s.
