If there's a Hell, that dog is in mine.
Don't let anyone fool you into thinking you can buy your way into being a good writer.
Write every day for a decade. Then you're a good writer.

I love the way you explain things and then give examples that i can actually understand - just a thought though... Do you think it is better to write a book for fun rather than trying to write one someone would hope would be popular?
Peace

@richiedrenz I actually haven't tried to get any of my novels published yet. Procrastinating I guess. I have only published short stories.

Why not use adverbs? I tawt that wud help to show and not tell better... as in the example you use, isnt i slowly pull the door shut more vivid than i pull the door shut?
I am a bit confused.. o_O

@richiedrenz It's that not that you shouldn't use adverbs ever, but use them sparingly. However, you can show you are slowly closing the door more than saying, slowly shut. ...

@richiedrenz "Like a thief trying to rob a person with acute hearing, I cupped the door knob and turned it. The knob and all the inner parts made no noise as I twisted it with surgical precision. Although it took five minutes to get the door opened enough for me to slip inside her room, it was worth it. She heard nothing. Her super powered hearing did her no good." "I slowly opened the door." Which has more suspense?
