What's that funny smell?!?

In the words of the immortal, and perhaps undead Bela Lugosi "Beware; Take care."

For the last few months my '72 Plymouth had been relegated to a seldom drive and wash due to the rising gas costs. Unfortunately, I have learned that there were added benefits to keeping the car clean and on the road.

In three attempts, I tried to remove a somewhat portly and unwanted visitor from the upper fender well. First, I poked at him/her (gently)with a golf club. That didn't work, and it made me feel guilty because the creature seemed afraid, and not even particularly bitey. Then I started the car up. That made him move around, but not exit the vehicle (and that metal fan blade made me worried that I might be cleaning up possum chunks, rather than just rousting an unwanted guest). My friend Mike asked me why I didn't just blow the horn. I had considered it, but if you note the horn position, that might be pretty cruel, and there's no way I could have shot the video myself, despite how hysterically funny that video would have been. (J'ever see a possum jump?!).

Finally, I doused the entire fender well with a bucket of water maybe five times. He stayed in the car for a few more minutes, but eventually left. After I moved the car I saw the water had rinsed out a good amount of scat which had been deposited in the car while he was living there. Sure it was nice having living creatures inhabit my car, but the upside is that now there is no more funny smell and I have gotten my bills for Little Tree Air Fresheners firmly under control.
