Siege of Belgrade Ottoman Empire(Belgrad Fethi)

The siege of Belgrade by Ottoman Sultan Mehmet (Mohammed) II the Conqueror in the summer of 1456 aroused considerable contemporary attention and has remained an event of great interest to historians ever since. The fall of that fortress city, less than three years after the Ottoman conquest of Constantinople, could have opened the gates of the European heartland to the Turks, and that would certainly have changed the history of the world. The battle for Belgrade also witnessed the emergence of the first peasant movements in Hungary, then one of the most powerful states of Christendom. The appearance of large numbers of armed peasants in Transylvania in 1437


Belgrad'ın fethi. Macaristan'ın ve Orta Avrupa'nın giriş kapısı konumunda ki Belgrat daha önce II. Mehmet döneminde kuşatılmış ama alınamamıştı. Fatih Sultan Mehmet döneminde Belgrad hariç bütün Sırbistan fethedilmişti. Sırplar ellerindeki tek kale olan Belgrad'ı koruyamayacaklarını düşünerek burayı Macar'lara bıraktılar. Ancak Osmanlılar'la Macarların arası iyi değildi. Macarlar, Osmanlılara karşı kurulan Haçlı birliğine katılıyor, Balkan uluslarını Osmanlılar'a karşı kışkırtıyor ve fırsat buldukça Türk topraklarına saldırıyorlardı. Kanuni Sultan Süleyman padişah olduğunda Macarlar onu tebrik etmemişler ve vergiyi göndermemişlerdi.

Macar Kralı II. Lajos'a gönderilen Osmanlı elçisi de öldürülünce Macarlar'la savaş kaçınılmaz oldu. Donanma Tuna nehri yoluyla, Kanuni de karadan büyük bir ordu ile Belgrad önlerine geldi. Böylece şehir karadan ve nehirden kuşatıldı (1521). Kale komutanı şehri teslim etmek zorunda kaldı. Belgrad 'ın alınmasıyla, Avrupa'ya yapılan seferlerde önemli bir üs edinildi.
