  • i just got a poper and i cant cast it out far

  • @lockyridesscoot45

That can be very disappointing - but it is possible to cast these small poppers far enough to consistently catch fish.

    1. Fishing line - make sure it is GOOD light line. Old springy 15lb line won't work. Use 4 or 6 pound mono or braid. You can always tie on a short, strong length of leader material to the end if you want.

    2. The Rod - a light fast action 7 foot long rod is a real asset here - no two ways about it.

Give this a try and see how you get on.

  • what size/brand popper is reccomended for this sort of fishing? will have to give it a go. does it still work well n the surf?

  • @fullymad2000

Small poppers - 50 to 70mm in length. Clear/translucent/pale in colour as you are generally fishing in shallow water.

As for the surf - I don't see why not. It will be a tad difficult to control the line and the action of the lure due to the breakers... but perhaps you will be the first!

Have a look at the Rebel Pop-R and go from there.

    All the best,

  • @fatshit436

Good on you! You will have a heap of fun. Remember, the key is the retrieve. Send some photos to the Fishing DVD website!

  • Thanks Starlo & Bushy you've made my day!!!!!;)

  • Starlo & Bushy are my favourite fisherman :)! im only 10 years old and i caught my first fish on a lure with Starlo & Bushy's Soft Plastic Wriggler it was a flathead i love soft plastics!

  • Fishing off my Kayak in two foot of water I had a ball recently snagging a dozen whiting in about an hour. The largest going 35cm.The gear used was 6.5ft light spin rod, 2500 reel 4lb braid, 5lb flouro leader & a stiffy popper. (Can't remember colour but clear with pinkish top side.) I tried this method after seeing ths video, so thanks! :)

  • Try hot dog chunks....especially the cheese filled dogs with the bits of cheese. They absolutely go nuts for it for some odd reason. And yes it works great when you tip a popper with em.
