  • i like to grip the pant leg around the knee and hold it as i mount even once the sweep is complete so he cant start the hip escape

  • also it means 2 points for sweep and 4 points for mount > than a ghetto armbar that he will probably defend.

  • why not arm bar

  • position before subission

  • @TheTyco11 It really depends on your game, but generally speaking, you want the better position. You can win most matches simply by working for position. You see it in MMA all the time. The top guy wins the decision half the time even if the bottom guy was the only one going for stuff. The same principle pretty much applies to any combat sport. Position >>>>>>> Submission

  • He did pretty well we use a faster way at the Gracie academy I just mix in wrestling moves with my jujitsu moves :)

  • this is one of my bread and butter sweeps. Truly a high percentage move.

  • i just do the armbar and sweep them from there like that, its killing 2 birds with one stone

  • @garett69 that my friend is anthony pettis wec lightweight champion and a holder of a best kick of 2010 and probably in mma history!! :)

  • Did he say "Hi, my name is John Whitetrash Cleveland"?

  • @sleung34 armbar from guard is harder to pull off that flower sweep from guard, based on my current experience

  • @ 0:50 you can position yourself there and throw him into an arm bar..that would be an easier submission...instead of all that...wouldnt it work better?

  • @rlclark50 i was referring to the arts tkd was based on,they are more than 100 yrs old.In original itf tkd, they go to extremes to define exactly what is in the syllabus and whats not, there is no grappling or throwing taught in the system .The rubber guard has been used before eddie bravo even began bjj,the system is bjj just like new sweeps developed are.Shotokan is a relatively modern system and never involved any subs /groundwork unlike its ancient precursors which may have.

  • @billysue2 Shotokan as a sport.

Furthermore, much like these martial arts, Jiujitsu has become splintered and segmented. Many proponents of the original style as systemized by the Gracies are against many of the modern, post 1990's elements being added because just like all the stuff that is ineffective in TKD/Shotokan/etc., the sport oriented elements can prove disastrous in the street.
