Amazing, who knew. When was this song written and what are the words in English?

    One learns something new everyday.

    Mike Paladino,

  • A great cover of the swedish song "Min Soldat" from 1940.

  • Thank you.....

Hmmmm..I believe the song was written in the 40's by Carroll Loveday.

Please post the song you mention on youtube.

    I checked and didn't hear a resemblance.

  • Hello,

I wasn't aware of the history until fellow from Sweden had added a comment.

  • I never knew the history of this song but I suspected that it did not start with Willie Winfield. Thanks, Mike, and also to the person who offered the early history as a Swedish song.

  • The song " Min Soldat" ( "My Soldier" in english) was written by Nils Perne (sometimes he used his nickname Jokern) 1940 and it was recorded by Ulla Billquist in 8 of May the same year. Ulla billquist was the most popular female record artist in Sweden during the 40's. Sadly she became Suicide the 6 of July 1946. Carroll Loveday wrote the english lyrics and the title became "The Shrine of St. Cecilia". Andrew Sisters recorded their version 1941.
