Chet was such a wonderful, warm, encouraging human...everyone who has commented here about him obviously knew him intimately, day-to-day, and is certainly qualified to make such judgments about him. Wow.
Here's to our media stars...may they forever make us believe that they are really nice people.

@staxmarshall That is correct. The tune he was playing in the recording studio was from "Work it Out With Chet Atkins, CGP" which was indeed an 80's release.

... I've also wondered where Jerry Reed lived. There's an old clip on here somewhere of an interview with Jimmy Dean from the early 70's and Chet mentions that Jerry named one of his songs "Steeplechase Lane" because that's the street he lived on. I googled it and there appears to be two different places with the name "Steeplechase Lane" in Nashville.

I have lived here in Nashville for a little more than two years and have only recently wondered where Chet's house was. I know the reporter said "Forest Hills" and I know that general area but does anyone know the actual address where this house is located? I would never ask this if he were still with us but since they are both gone I can't see how it would hurt.

A few on here speculating about an approximate date for this newscast. A few clues suggest early 1980's. Chet playing an early version of his Gibson Classic Electric nylon string guitar, his hairstyle matched with countless photos of Chet that anyone can google image at the click of a button, one of the two Chet Atkins: In Three Dimensions books by John McClellan mention that He and Leona had that house built around 1957-58 and the reporter says they have lived there for "23 years."

That's cool if Chet wants to live by the ocean in his next life, as long as he plays the guitar in that life.

Chet walking had a sort of hunched over look. That comes from YEARS of being hunched over that guitar! The guitar seemed to just "Fit him" It seemed to be a part of his body. it was like the missing piece of the puzzle.
Chet and Leona both gone, now, but forever remembered. Probably both walking together now, hand in hand on glory's shores, as they did in this video...

@wagonmaster1974 That's a cute story. I heard him say once on tv that when he became successful that he bought a home with a swimming pool shaped like a guitar [pause] amplifier - and then he smiled his quiet smile. Took me a second to catch on. : - ) So nice to see him with his pretty wife and to see the affection they had for each other. After his sad childhood, it's good to know that he received all her love for the rest of his life. They surely were sweet people.
Such a nice man he was

Chet is my hero. His music has brought me, and continues to bring me, endless pleasure. He really reminds me of George W .Bush in this video.
