This is a mini-lesson on how to approach strangers on the streets or in school to perform some tricks for them. Hope this is helpful advice! If you do ever try this out, tell me how it goes! =)

  • Thoughtful advice. I agree 'card tricks' sounds ameturish. I say 'card magic'.

You suggest that as a performer one should sell oneself a bit, get one's foot in the door... but if the target is initially uninterested is it worthwhile trying to persuade them? Isn't it better to perform for people who are positive from the off? I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on that. :)

  • @SofMMoon Very good question. I would personally playfully ask them once more, "You sure? You are going to be a witness to something so incredible you will kick yourself after wards!" Something like that. Of course, if they still don't want to, then it's best not to pursue them in my opinion. My anecdote about the footing the foot in the door was more referring to that more questions lead to more chances for them to refuse. So less question = your foot's still in there =)

  • Albert, I tried this one, hope you like this one ;) "Lady, you have dropped something..."...She looked around the floor, i said" you dropped a chance of watching my (magic) tricks, do you want it back???" Give some comment ;D

  • @RayFong9999 Haha that would be a good attention grabber in the right situations. So, how did it go?

  • AMAZING MATERIAL.

BUT CAN YOU PLEASE SUGGEST YOUR TOP 5 CARD TRICKS YOU PERFORM?

  • Good advice Albert. I commonly will use the line "Can you help me out?" with a deck of cards in my hand. It works almost all the time. I think it's the psychological effect that they believe that they are helping you instead of you performing for them. Then once they see what you have to offer, they become more interested in the magic itself.

  • @TricksterAP Just touch her shoulder and say "Lady, you dropped something" LOL. May i have for your facebook page ;)

  • I've been trying to move on to performing for strangers, so perfect timing on this video haha. Great advice. My inclination was to go up to someone and ask them if they have a minute, but it's a good thing I watched the video first because you make a great point about that. Keep up these mini-lessons. They're extremely helpful.

  • @TricksterAP

ok, that makes sense, thanks :)

  • Thanks for this video!

  • I really think that your mini-lessons are really useful! Not like those tutorials teaching about tricks and sleights of hands, you've taught us about precious experience for being a performer!

  • this is great advice :)
