  • I was taught when nursing with St johns not to use cotton wool as it can shed and leave fibres on wound site, if cleaning a wound to use none shedding material such as gauze pads.

  • I would not use any Kleenex type or cotton balls to clean a wound. They may have bacteria on them. use sterile gauze pads to clean all types of small wounds. Furthermore, small fibers my break off cotton balls and get stuck in the wound causing infections.
