"Oh, and you owe me..."

I won't spoil it. This is my favorite line from the entire "Dexter" series so-far. I got into a little discussion on an IMDb forum with someone who claims to have been the cameraman during that scene. When I quoted it, he corrected me in a rather snarky manner. I have no reason to think he's lying (and honestly, no reason to believe him either), but I really don't see why having ran the camera means that you remember the dialog better than any other fan. Anyways, this is not meant to ridicule, only to prove my point- I was right :)

(and the only reason I knew for sure was because it was my favorite line of the series)

Lesson: If you are going to correct someone, make sure you are right!

This scene means a lot. Doakes wasn't a complete and utter asshole. He knew there was something wrong in Dexter, and he persecuted him because he could never put his finger on it, even through the experience he's gone through. When he finds out Dexter is a junkie, he feels as though it explains it all. This is where Doakes understands and accepts Dexter. "You owe me a new michelin." That, and nearly calling Dexter a cop, or at least equal, means that for a while, he was a friend.
