My student Rachael walks us through the usefulness of the Interactive Journal (adapted from "History Alive". This is a very useful tool for both student and teacher. For the student, it becomes a personal journal of learning. The right-side is reserved for information from the book, the Internet, lab procedures, or me, the teacher, while the left-side is an expression of the student's learning in the form of webs and graphic organizers, pictures, quotes, thoughts, and reflections. I benefit as a teacher because they make it easy to assess the students' learning yet take less time to grade than traditional worksheets. Everything is pasted in so bring plenty of glue, a pair of scissors, a variety of resources and an imagination.
