Why Software Sucks - David Platt

As a musician that has been playing for over 30 years, I am new to recording software. EVERY attempt has been torture. I am NOT a computer expert. Why do software designers think the rest of us, especially creative types are supposed to think like they do? It is arrogance and elitism. They have some special "priesthood" of technical knowledge and they use it to alter and control society. And now we must all become technical geniuses just to be able to make our art. Thanks for killing my passion.

@WinterXL lol - read my comments bottom up. No blaming the devs on this one :-)

@NXavier787 changes) I do get rubbed the wrong way when PM, QA, and Mgmt in general aren't held more accountable. So yes, I'm on a tangent :-) but please excuse me - I've been on a bit of tech burnout lately.
Hopefully Agile will change a lot of this. I'm liking it more and more, and I'm finding that everyone seems much happier with products because ownership is close and there are more 'hands on' at earlier stages.

@WinterXL You are correct and I do see your point. I get very sensitive when developers are called on the mat for any reason. Not that we're never at fault, and Platt is correct - we are having to specialize and we do need more 'intermediary' layers between the devs and the users. Ultimately this will help. If you've been in IT for any length of time and have done your share of the "Bataan death march" projects, with unrealistic deadlines and constantly changing (and often unrealistic spec

@NXavier787 he's talking about software usability... i'm not sure where your tangent was going really, unless you're trying to say that improvements to UI won't happen due to developers being overly beleaguered.

@WinterXL Try and view my comment within the context of Platt's commentary. It's not so hard to do. You just need perspective. This will come after a few solid years of actual IT experience.

god i thank you for making me a mechanical engineer
I respect David Platt.
Having said that, I believe that the fundamental "problem" with IT / software development is that management cannot seem to understand that nine women cannot birth a baby in one month.
My view from the trenches of development is that the average IT worker is overworked, poorly managed, and sick of being screwed by The Company.

@NXavier787 that doesn't exactly pertain to what he's been talking about :P
