I agree and disagree with alot of the above statements. Against Me! does have a new sound but that comes with age and better recording studio's etc. I love all of their CD's equaly but all for different reasons. maybe you should give it a shot.

I honestly dont think half of you on here even pay attaion to what tom sings about. This isnt music, Punk was never music it was somthing to belive in and go off and do your own version of it. Yes every Against Me! recored sounds diffrent and that has more to do with how talented they are as musicans. This dose not make them anyless punk. The clash knew how to play there instruments and did but theres no ramberlings about them not being punk.

Is it because they've changed band members? I don't know quite what happened, but at some point I started to ..."hate their songs, hate the words that the singer was singing to me, and hate the melody..." Not talking about the song on this video or the one quoted above. "Stop" is a good example of what I mean.

One more point, I love the Minor Threat Sound, or Stiff Little Fingers, but it couldn't be duplicated because it would be meaningless, Punk's big contribution to music was DIY, one could go the GG Allen route but it's exhausting and pointless, I think the philosophy of punk in terms of staying connected to reality, maintaining control of your music and not thinking of music as a commodity are it's most important influences. I could barely care if Against Me is Punk, whatever that means.

Oldphoque, I'm not sure how old you are, I'm 28 which feels much older than it is, I discovered punk through Rancid(we all heard the Ramones but Rancid grabbed me), and I also went through a phase of denying my middle class born 15 years too late syndrome. In this time I've realized a few things, I would never want to be a real street punk, violent, uneducated, nihilistic, in fact, one of the 'real punk' bands was painfully middle class: The Clash. I want to say more, but there's no space.
