As experts consider a review of UK guidelines for treating transgender children, this film follows a number of children in the US who told their parents they were born in the wrong body.

In America, children under 16 can be prescribed hormone 'blockers' to prevent the onset of puberty, with a view to then follow with hormone treatment to become their new gender. This film follows the American experience.

These children and their parents reveal what it is like to face life-changing questions, giving a frank insight into a subject most people never have to consider.

  • No matter how hard they tried to hide it, one can't help but notice the rooted sadness in the parents' eyes; I think that deep down they realize that being a part of the 'open-minded parent league' necessitates their readiness to be frequently faced by dilemmas where they have to sacrifice their happiness for the sake of their children's.

  • Just because I like Call of Duty doesn't make me a boy, and just because my brother likes purple doesn't make him a girl.

  • @Linnas79 50 years ago transgenders "didn't exist" because society would have ostracized them immediately. Yes, you're right, it's because of growing acceptance. Transgenderism has been around for thousands of years, the Roman Emperor Elagabalus might have had a sex change and would have been "the first empress" but then she was killed by a bunch of soldiers ... so ... and anyway, any kind of "abnormality" was always surpressed until now - 70 years ago being gay was illegal :/

  • @WeedNDshit WHAT?! omg, you're one of these guys who just don't get it, aren't you? Tranny = girl = NOT gay. Cause that's what you were thinking, wasn't it?! Listen, I hate to be the one who starts the aggression - but seriously?! Please educate yourself before saying ignorant hurtful things like that!

  • @ChrisSmithVideosTV When i was younger i wanted to be a dad. I'm still a tom boy

and i always will be, but i'm straight.

  • I'm a lesbian. I'm 14. I want to grow up and be just like my dad, saying that I want to be a dad..When I was younger, I always got my hair cut, short. My aunt Elly, the one that cuts my hair, said I couldn't do that and that it makes me look like an Old woman. Let me be me...I am a guy...

  • @teddy12300 Not really, as a transgender person myself, its very depressing and I always hate myself and how I look.

  • im not aginst sex changes but sometimes its bets if you stik with the carks your delt

  • @Linnas79

i think so. if someone (boy) had said like 60 years ago that he's really i girl, and he feels himself as a girl, he woudnt say that after that. those things very HUGE tabus back then, such as homosexuality etc.

  • Just wondering; now that this is more commonly known, do you guys think that the publicity encourages kids to behave like this? Don't want to sound like I don't believe in the desorder, I just wonder why all of a sudden so many kids seem to doubt their gender while, say, 50 years ago such a thing never happened. Is it because we grew more accepting? That would be a good thing, right?
