Yes, Maori have helped make NZ a great country but we still have a long way to go. As a result of Non-Māori & Māori integration Non-Māori remain unwilling to learn the Māori language & Māori are over represented in all NZ negative Stats, such as Un-employment, Poor education, Poor health, Drug & Alcohol abuse, Youth suicide, Crime - 50% of NZ prison pop (stats.govt.nz ). Yesterday on The Vote, a MediaWorks produced TV show, 76% of viewers who voted thought NZ is a racist country...

ahem..as a PAKEHA who respects AEOTEAROA.let it be known the MAORI did NOT loose the war..GATE PA created the need for equality and although hard won and not always upheld the Maori gained rights to vote ..before many pakeha and a guarantee of seats in parliament,,NZ is not perfect BUT it is the most integrated whilst allowing for indigenous culture to not only thrive but DOMINATE what KIWI means..and that SPIRIT gives NZ SAS the POWER over ALL.

yes. but, unfortunately for them, they never did, and instead they integrated into society to help make new zealand the amazing country it is today :)

Settlers hungry for more land became frustrated at the refusal of various Maori Tribes to sell them land. They put pressure on the Crown to send thousands of British soldiers to force Maori off. In the end, weakened by inferior technology, malnutrition, sickness, & outnumbered 10 to 1, the tribes moved off their prime grazing lands & onto lands of less potential. Their intention, to take back their lands when in a stronger state.

āe mārika! Peretānia! kāore e Ingarangi! - In rugby matches the English act alone but in facing off against the Maori tribes they did indeed act under the British flag. I will argue your 2nd point.. Yes, some of these skirmishes were won by the British but others were won by the Maori. NZ became part of the British Empire the day the British said it would be.Maori have never fought against Britain’s kaitiakitanga (guardianship) they fought against the theft of private property by the settlers.
