  • Wow, nice job on splitting wood. How about just picking up some dead branches outside and breaking them up. Much better fire starter.

  • @peompdaddy That is indeed a great idea - but we start hundreds of fires every year, and have long since burned all of the natural kindling - and we live in a forest of massive pines.

  • why is it that 3 minutes into my fire heavy smoke comes out every time I open my door? Its about 40degrees outside now. I'm thinking its too cold and its creating a downdraft? am I wrong? thanks and the propane is an excellent idea, getting one tomorrow..

  • Some chimneys just don't draft well. If that's not been a problem in the past, then you might need to have your chimney cleaned. Some chimneys do better once they are 'warmed up.' Most preheat enough within 15-minutes. Lastly, a smoky fire in a fireplace almost invariably indicates low heat. Get the flames going and the smoke will disappear. Once the heat in the firebox is raised adequately, flames are not necessary to prevent excess smoking.

  • @mattdean1003 its a theme tune of a kids t.v program jsut type in snoopy theme tune but remember to find one with a piano playin it because thats the original instrument that was used to play it

  • What's the name of the song at the end of this video?

  • I use alcohol based hand sanitizer and a match it's much cheaper and non need to split the wood

  • you should first fill the stove with thin hard wood kndling

and let it burn for a while than fill up the stove with oak split oak firewood

  • I didn't like 2 things. One is the cutting with the axe, you know people are watching and will try it out as you did and end up missing a hand and Two for propane bottle you have for starting the fire. No need to have such a dangerous bottle in your hands, just use some matches and some small pieces of wood and the fire will come flawlesly.

  • Great video, just purchased a house with a fireplace for the first time and had some issues , your video helped . Thank you.

  • Where's the big secret? wood burning is supposed to be cheap not buying torches. what a dork. he has no ash on the floor that is not good because a fire will not keep hot . always put a nice piece of paper burning on top to get a good draft started. I would be frozen by the time this guy gets done...........

  • Haha, starting your fireplace with a blow torch, my kind of secret... =)

  • You never ever burn pine lumber in a fire place or a wood heater or a stove. You will get a creosote buildup and creosote if highly flammable.

  • Good system, my friend - similar to my own. However, if you use the same system, but build your kindling stack ON TOP of a couple pieces of "regular" firewood, you'll have a bed of coals glowing MUCH sooner. You can build your stack all at once, light it and walk away. I also use wood as my primary heat source, and my system works well. You might want to give it a try. Stay warm, my friend.
