@nikothedog They turn to only one side and breath every 1-2 strokes because they only care about maximum performance. But for long distance you want to conserve your energy...every 3 strokes.
@liluz1234 I learned the same and experienced it. I'm trying to learn freestyle but after some lanes I can't keep the uneven breathing rhythm so I normally go for air every two strokes. After a while it hurts in the neck.
But there's another thing about this. Triathlons are often in open water. So orientation is a critical point and not easy if you are breathing just to one side, because this gives you a drift in one direction and you constantly have to readjust...
@nikothedog Its really upto you I think, breathing every 3 strokes just gives you more options I think, well It does for me. Especially when swimming in the sea and the waves are splashing in from the right.
@nikothedog in what i´ve learned breathing very constantly makes u go a little bit slower plus they´ve told me breathing just on one side hurts ur back, I dont´t if it true what im saying but thats what i´ve learned
I was thought as a kid to breathe every three strokes and alternate. I started now noticing that some of the best swimmers like Thorpe breathe every 2 strokes on one side. I wonder if that's better and if it creates less of a waste of energy.
well does anyone wanna tell me how to do this same workout without my paddles, should I consider concentrating on kicking more cuz I realize I suck at that
@FreddyFredstar when I started to swim for tris, that's what I was told as well. My college has a swim instructor... she has insisted my catch be deeper in the water to grab the 'still' water that is not turbulent from the wake of the body.
@FreddyFredstar ya i notice that too. but yet he is still a good swimmer. definately a different technique from what they teach. but can't argue with him he's one of the best hah
