This video demonstrates the HDX Mediastream and new Vorbis audio codecs in XenDesktop 4 for audio functionality. First we'll show (and let you hear) the Mediastream function where we offload the content to the local machine and render it there, and the second demo is using a non-Windows media type player to force server side (in this case the server is a Windows 7 VM running on XenCenter), connected through over the internet. The new codecs allow for high def sound, while utilizing at most 96 Kbps. The video was captured with fraps and includes the real time sound output, so no tricks with dubbing.
The choice between server side and client side rendering is automatically made by the client, together with the server. So if we use a non-Windows Media based player, it will automatically force server side rendering, but if the client can't handle Windows Media, it will also fall back to server side rendering. No user intervention is needed.
