Got Me Going Crazy (Chapter 8)

*the next morning, Nick comes out of his room to find Kevin still on his computer. Kevs eyes are bloodshot as she stares at the screen. Nick runs to him*

Nick: Kevin! Were you online all night?

Kevin: *not looking up*Yes

Nick: snap out of it! *hits him across the face*

Kevin: ouch! That did it! *looks at his watch. 6:30 AM.* What the hell are you doing up this early?

Nick: Getting the paper for Derek.

Kevin: *sighs* I still dont see why you even bothered with that job. We got everything we need.

Nick: Whats wrong Kev? Afraid of a little manual labor?

Kevin: No, its just-

*Nicks watch beeps*

Nick: I gotta go, man. See you in about half an hour.

*Nicks leaves the house, goes out to his car and drives to the newspaper stand and picks up the Times. He then drives to the 7-eleven to give the paper to Derek.*

Derek: ah, good morning Nick!

Nick: Morning! *puts the paper down on the counter* here is your paper.

Derek: thanks. Here is $10 for your troubles.

Nick: Its no trouble, really.

Derek: Good. Youre my new paper-deliverer then. Go grab yourself a Slurpie. We need to test the machine for the morning, anyhow.

Nick: Ok! *goes to the machine and grabs a cup. He tries to pull one of the handles, but it wont budge. Then a girl comes out of the back room, grabs a cup, goes to the same handle and gives it a good hard yank. Shes wearing all black, looks like shes starving and has heavy makeup on and a few piercings. She looks at Nick.*

Girl: its always getting stuck. *walks away, goes to grab a pack of cigarettes from behind the counter*

Derek: Jessica

Jessica: *looks up* take it out of my paycheck. *goes outside to smoke.*

Nick: *once she leaves* What the hell was that?

Derek: *sighs* Jessica. Shes an emo.

Nick: never would have guessed.

Derek: Kinda feel sorry for her, you know. The kids got all kinds of problems at home. *does the tsk, tsk sound* All well. See you tomorrow, Nick.

Nick: yes. Tomorrow. Of course. Later!

*Walks out, staring at Jessica as he goes past her. Keeps looking back and walks into someones car. The alarm goes off as he jumps back in surprise before getting into his own car and driving away*
