Low turnout marks early hours of voting during assembly polls in India's southern state of Kerala. Those voting early highlighted the importance of voting to build the country.
Polling stations on Wednesday in India's southern Kerala wore a deserted look during the early hours of assembly elections.
The elections to the 140-member Kerala legislative assembly began early on Wednesday.
[Anu, Local Resident]:
"This is my first vote, I came early as there is no rush. India is a democratic country so everyone should cast their votes."
Security officials were deployed all across the state, and were seen patrolling in and around the polling booth premises, as voters started coming in.
The last day of the campaigning process was marked by large-scale celebrations.
People were seen dancing on streets in Kochi and beating drums, while elsewhere colorful processions were out in force.
Spirited residents highlighted the importance of voting.
[Anil, Local Resident]:
"Everybody should use their vote, I truly believe in casting votes hence I came here early in the morning to cast my vote, which will help the country to develop."
The state is one of India's most Left-wing provinces, and has been since 1960.
