The best system I can think of would be to link London and Birmingham as a 320kph line, and then connect Birmingham New Street to this. Then by building new stock to british loading gauge (modified ETR600 for example), we could connect Birmingham to Manchester, Liverpool and Scotland. This would free up capacity on the west coast mainline and would also ensure that that the major cities of the UK were covered. Manchester, Birmingham and Liverpool must be connected to a high speed network.
A new high speed train is so un-necessary, especially when there already is one from London Euston - Glasgow getting you there in 4 and 1/2 hours. I was there before I left!
@anthonypurvis8619 Yeah I've noticed that also, I'm from London area and think its rediculous that we should have yet another underground rail tunnel yet some of the biggest cities in the UK don't have any. I heard Birmingham put in a proposal for an underground but it was dismissed by central government.
I think the rest of the country need to seek more private investment for major projects such as rail and then negotiate central to chip in. Its the only way as sad and as unfair as it is
there are already train that link mager city like the tilting virgen train how have tilting trains to london manchestre glasgo and edighbro if they do them lines agen the train whant be able to tilt so they need to get therer facts rights
10, 15, 20, 30 years is this man living in the real world. Government are more than happy to connect London to Paris so southerners can quickly jump the channel to there french villa's or build cross rail so Londoners save 45 mins at rush hour, but as for the other 90% of the population well we can wait 30 years apparently.

They should improve the present system before they have a bloody high speed line.
