On the14 May 1940 the secretary of state for war Anthony Eden gave a radio broadcast announcing the formation of the Local Defence Volunteers and called for volunteers to join the force in the first seven days 250,000 volunteers attempted to sign up by July this number increased to 1.5 million. On 22 July at Winston Churchill,s insistence the LDV was officially renamed the Home Guard. Even once the threat of invasion had passed, the Home Guard remained in existence manning guard posts and performing other duties to free up regular troops for duties overseas. In April 1942, Home Guard Anti-Aircraft units were formed, and by 1944 these they had taken over many anti-aircraft batteries, operating light to heavy guns and also rocket batteries. The was even a naval section which is shown in the video. The Home Guard also served as a cover for the Auxiliary Units, who would go under ground and let Germans invasion pass over them then they would function as guerilla units. To begin with the only uniforms they had were arm bands and very little in the way of weapons but they eventually became a well trained efficient force. The Home Guard were formally stood down on 3 December 1944 and finally disbanded on 31 December 1945.

RULE BRITANNIA, It was impossible for the Axis to invade Britain, BUT if they did get a successful landing, I am 100% sure the British Empire Forces & Home Guard Milita would have humiliated the Axis. As Churchill said, Now France has been defeated we can get on with the jobs.
