This is one of those videos that I always check in on from time to time. Simply Amazing!

Sylvius Leopold Weiss is amazing!
Around 650 of Weiss works have survived-
The largest collection in lute music history.
His music is so beautiful.

Just wanted to say an infinite thank you for introducing me both to Weiss and Robert Barto. I've picked up 5 of the 10 Barto volumes of Weiss lute sonatas in the past 10 days. I'll get the rest soon. Not enough time in the day to listen. Just incredible. Do you know anything on the specifics of the woods in this lute? I would guess an ebony fretboard and spruce top but I'm sure you can tell I'm a guitar player talking here. No idea about characteristic lute woods. Well, thanks again.

That was Xmas for me! Thanks!

Barto is amazing playing -- more like channeling -- Weiss. Unparalled. LOVE it.

What an amazing instrument harmonies and voicing I never hear on my regular guitar.
One day with some wishful thinking!

@Eldejot, Segovia plays the guitar: a far more widely available, less expensive instrument with far more teachers and instructional material. Also the guitar is a bona fide living instrument meaning music is still regularly written for it by amateurs, professionals, even kids. I do like the lute but this is the current reality.
What kind of lute is that? By the way, the music he plays is incredible... please answer me... I want to play this music too...!!! Regards from México

@pulpiSnova It is a 13 course baroque lute built by Andrew Rutherford from New York

Number 36 in d minor. The other movements of his in d minor that I have uploaded (allemande, bouree, menuet) are all from the same sonata. Again, it's available on Naxos on his Weiss disc number 8.
