A Collaboration of Buses that I have used from Toronto to New York City in June 2008, July 2008, August 2008, September 2008 and June 2009. The photos taken are of my work.
@trailways7 I received it from New York City Transit, in a New York post article. These type of buses wher being test drived in regular transit service. The Article said GPS systems, deflated the tires, so it would fit in the tunnel. Unless that was a feature only those prototype buses had.
@gmcbuses I don't know where you got your information on that the tires deflates. The tolerable height for the Lincoln Tunnel is 13'6 and the Van Hool TD925 (Bus used by Megabus) is 13'1. This bus can go anywhere where ever a 18 Wheeler can go since both vehicles are the same height. I suggest you visit the Van Hool website and ABC Companies website to learn about the TD925 Bus. It seems to me you have done little research on this vehicle.
@gmcbuses 4 people died, the top was pushed back like an "accordion" according to one witness. The bridge had a clearance of 10'9 and the bus is 13'1 in height. As per the spokesperson of Coach USA the driver is not allowed to use the GPS but rather place a call to Dispatch. As for a system with deflating tires on demand, this feature has not been confirmed with Van Hool and/or ABC Companies.
@trailways7 I"m curious was anyone seriously hurt or killed? Was the top sheared off, smashed, or partially after it hit the bridge. I did not know they wher all across the continent. Now I do. That is great. Supposedly GPS systems are suppose to take the air out of the tires, so it could get under a bridge, or tunnel. If it was not working, or the bridge was way too low, it would not work
@BayviewFinch That is true about the damages and that is just one vehicle. I saw nothing wrong with the vehicle except it was driven into a bridge. FYI I am a Coach Technician Student at Centennial. As for the drivers, based on that I have used Megabus since 2008 most are new on the job and are not familiar with driving to Buffalo from New York and now Philadelphia. I am not defending Megabus, but rather hope they learn from what happened on the morning of September 11, 2010.
@trailways7 - The vehicle is still safe? My guess is that the vehicle is going to be scrapped as it's so damaged it's not worth repairing. And how about the drivers? Are they safe if they run into bridges?
@BayviewFinch According to investigators the driver took the wrong fork in the exit and went towards the bridge instead of the Bus Terminal. The vehicle is still safe.
