  • My Passat 1.8T 20 valve turbo had this problem. The throttle body is caked with hardened oil residue which stops the throttle plate closing correctly affecting air flow and confusing the ECU. Just clean inside the throttle and the throttle plate with a clean lint free rag using WD40 and lightly spray the throttle spindle/bush on either side.

    residue.

  • Correct its a bad iac valve and you can't just swap that out. You have to get a different throttle body

  • idle air control valve or air leak.

  • Throttle body bad....

  • @mazetechsystems most likely the MAF (Mass Air Flow) just clean it if you haven't already.

  • could be the air bo plugs . it happend on mine and one was loose i put it bk on and it run fine
