Parachute Tower at Six Flags Great Adventure

This is the Parachute Training Center: Edwards AFB Jump Tower. The tower is 250ft/76.2m tall, but the gondolas only go to the 230ft/70.1m level before going back down. This tower was built by Intamin and opened at Six Flags Great Adventure in 1983. At one time, just about every Six Flags had these kind of towers. Now the only ones I know of are at Six Flags over Texas and this park.

You can actually see some of the original walkway that once was the parks original entrance. Just look inside Rolling Thunders tracks and you see it. You'll also see the former Great American Scream Machine (GASM). It was once the tallest and fastest roller coaster when it opened in the 90's.

@Jeremy Higashiyama My guess is that it's popularity was waning. I've been on three and two of them are now gone, the other ones were the Texas Chute Out at Six Flags over Texas and there was one at Boardwalk & Baseball/Circus World near Orlando, FL. It could also bee that the maintenance costs were just getting too high to justify keeping parachute part open.

this ride is still at the park and working perfectly...i still never been on it though.... :(

You should go on it. It's one of only two that I know of that are left in the US. The other one is at Six Flags over Texas. It's in Arlington, about half way between Dallas and Ft Worth.

SERIOUSLY??!!!?? wow i must be lucky to have a six flags with that ride...ill be sure to get on it tomorrow!!! i am not trying to have a repeat of G.A.S.M (i really wanted to get on G.A.S.M and i was to late...when i went back to the park it was torn down...) this has nothing to do with this ride but i bizarro a good ride??? i want to get on that 2... THX FOR THE TIPS!!!! :) I REALLY APPRECIATE IT!!!!! :)

Bizzaro is a great ride during the day and even better at night. Plus there's onboard audio track as well. I've got both day and night off ride videos of GASM and Bizzarro as well as many other coasters and rides at SFGrAdv on my channel.

Its funny how Knott's Berry farm kept the tower just for the observation deck, but why they took the parachutes out is beyond me.

@woodencoasterfan Knott's Berry Farm in Buena Park Los Angeles California use to have the the same parachute drop but its now gone only the slow spinning cabin in the middle still exist
