This is a clip of Jon performing his great tune "State of Independence" from his second official collaboration with Vangelis, Friends of Mr. Cairo. The song is available as an enhanced audio disc, or on iTunes. It's been covered by a few great singers, including Donna Summers.

The second part of this video is Jon telling about his first encounter with the Greek super musician.

  • I think Jon is picturing a world in this song where everything comes together, personally, politically and spiritually. The State of Independence is to be find in your soul, in music and dance, and can then come to be in the world at large, transforming the original State of Independence that is based on the status quo and power imbalance between nations and persons. Well something like that! Jon is a master in writing very moving utopian lyrics!

  • The music stops sounding well when the singer starts to joke

  • HE LOVES VANGELIS,,,,,

    LIKE WE ALL DO!!

But to say the truth his humour is not that good..

But his voice and personality UNIQUE

  • Shablam idi, shablam ida. in mine country this mean short man who sing like angel eat magic mushroom, have vision of giant purple elf eating fruit loop cereal while riding hamster in a leather mask, and write song with big fat greek man about experience.

  • I am gay.

  • I'm with you. Jon is one in a million...NO one can write lyrics like he can...though I'd dang well love to try. ;-) IMO, he is the gold standard for cosmically lyrical writing, but then, I've been a fan-girl of his since I was 8...

To me...he is the voice of our Sun...the sound of the center of our galaxy...if Galactric Central Point had a voice, that is.

i have heaven in my heart when he sings.

  • Classic

  • P.s. for all Yes/Jon Anderson fans: there is a great book on Yes'music and lyrics by Philosophy professor Bill Martin. It's called Music of Yes: Structure and vision in progressive rock.
