SIDS Prevention Video Hideen Hazards of Babies Placed in Adult Beds. The CPSC data shows that babies placed in adult beds are at risk of dying from several hidden hazards including: Entrapment between the bed and wall, or between the bed and another object. Entrapment involving headboards, footboards or bed frames. Soft bedding-related hazards (such as suffocation on a pillow). Falls (sometimes into a pile of clothing or plastic, resulting in suffocation). Overlaying of the baby by another child or adult in the bed. The campaign will include a video news release (VNR) that will be fed to stations nationwide highlighting the hazards associated with placing babies in adult beds and safety pamphlets/posters distributed through retailers, hospitals, health departments and various grass roots organizations. Acting CPSC Chairman Thomas Moore said "Many of these tragic deaths associated with placing babies in adult beds are preventable." The CPSC recommends the following safety tips to ensure that babies under 24 months sleep safely: Don't place a baby to sleep in an adult bed. Hidden hazard: The baby could become entrapped between the bed & wall, or in headboards, footboards, bedframes. Babies could also fall or suffocate in soft bedding. Place babies to sleep on their backs in a crib that meets current safety standards and has a firm, tight-fitting mattress. If you use a portable crib or playpen, make sure it meets current safety standards. Use only the mattress or pad provided by the manufacturer. Babies should be placed to sleep on their backs, not their stomachs. Hidden hazard: According to the Back to Sleep Campaign, "Babies sleeping on their stomachs seem to be more likely to succumb to SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome)." Don't place a baby to sleep on soft bedding. Hidden Hazard: The baby could suffocate. Do not use soft bedding such as pillows and thick quilts and comforters for infants under 12 months old. If you knew that your baby's risk to die was up to 40 times greater while sleeping in an adult bed, rather than a safe crib, where would you place your baby to sleep? Despite the existence of compelling research and statistics regarding the importance of safe sleep in reducing our nation's high rates of infant mortality, the number of babies dying in adult beds and other unsafe places is on the rise. With safe sleep education alone we can reduce the number of sudden, unexpected infant deaths in the U.S. by as much as 50%. To reach this goal, we must: Ensure that every parent is aware of, and prepared to adopt, lifesaving safe sleep practices before leaving the hospital. Ensure that every baby has access to a safe crib, especially if the family can't afford one. Hazards of Babies Placed in Adult Beds (2002) Public Domain video.

  • Since what age is it safe to place an infant in a bed... Sorry if i sound stupid, but im expecting my baby in 4 months... I see my cousin sleep with her baby all the time, along with one of her little girls. She turned one year old in April.

  • yareida555, sleeping with your child in the bed is not safe since you could unconsciously and accidentally smother your child.

  • And I asked since what age is it safe to place the kid in a bed

  • yareida555, it depends on the kid, but as a rule of thumb, 18 months for a toddler bed, but it also depends on the safety features of the toddler bed. Thanks

  • good vid

  • sexyjulie17, thank you!

  • To prevent SIDS you can do many things. Research the products that are used for and around your baby. PVC in crib mattresses and most of all VACCINES. my baby brother dies from SIDS 5 days after his FULL VACCINATION. i will not preach i will only plant the seed for you all to do your own research and make your own conclusions. This is something i am OBVIOUSLY VERY PASSIONATE ABOUT. I will do everything I can to get the WORD OUT and CHANGE THE STATUS QUOT.

  • If a bed is so dangerous, why isn't this considered child endangerment. Are we protecting the caregivers instead of our precious babies. My grandson died on a pillow top bed in the prone position even though I made sure his babysitter knew the risks of SIDS. I made sure she had a pack-n-play for my grandson but I neglected to check to make sure she was using it. I made sure she knew my grandson should be taking his naps on his back. She neglected my warnings. I spread to word on safe sleep.

  • @iamdwyanecardiff Not to start a fight or anything, but, I don't understand what your saying. "Is pancreatitis was the form for bangungot?" Please reword it so I know what you are asking.

  • @Rachiann No matter what they say, place your child on their side or stomach. If they bring something up, they could choke if they were on their back.

  • @DorgiChick420 I remember the death of Rico Yan, it was actually the cause of the death is acute pancreatitis.. is pancreatitis was the form for bangungot??

Marky Cielo's death is still unknown, what was d cause?

  • @iamdwyanecardiff It's SIDS. Sudden Infant Death Syndrome. It's where a healthy baby can die, and no one knows how. Doctors do autopsies, but the only thing they can find is that the baby is dead.

  • what is SUDS?? is it bangungot??

  • My Fiance and I are planning on starting a family pretty much as soon as we get married. and I think that when I do have a child. that this is one thing that is going to scare me .

  • If you were truly researching this issue then you would know that the doctor who found a link between autism and vaccines falsified his results.

  • You are wrong. So what if there was an article in Mother Jones or the Utne Reader? I'm writing a book referencing peer reviewed journal articles detailing how it happens. Polio declined prior to vaccination if you take the time to look. Measles is not deadly in properly nourished children (not vitamin A deficient). My vaccinated daughter is dead, and I know it was her vaccines. Countries that vaccinate later and less have a much lower infant mortality rate than the US, now 45th. Inexcusable.
