Wow!

wore out my 45

Just think, I used to think this was a ''lost'' Beatles record!

@SixtiesPopGold The lead singing is truly live, with the music and backing vocals, on a track, being played loudly through the house speakers. On this one anyway. The lead singer's mike is on and turned up loud to match the volume of the playback.

@SixtiesPopGold The Big TNT show? What's that?!? Hey, come to think of it--on the Chuck Berry number, you notice (how could you not?) the very healthy bikini'd woman off to the left on the rafters in the beginning of the number then suddenly-poof!!-she's vanished and replaced by a different female dancer. I thought this was done live as is? Was it post-edit work?

@Khultan Yes, I've got The TAMI Show and The Big TNT Show, but I'm not completely sure that they're live. The backgrounds might be pre-recorded live, just like they did on Shindig. Great shows, though.

@SixtiesPopGold Ahhh-so that could be the essential reason-the fear of live studio playing glitches. I recently purchased The T.A.M.I. show 14 days ago. Have you got it? Alot of popular singers and bands were selected to attend that show and it looks like their playing live before a live audience. What makes the difference?!?
-
@Khultan Yes, it's a bit strange that it's so obvious that it's playback on some shows. They could at least have used some mircophone and had their guitars plugged in. But many producers were afraid that the sound would be terrible if they played live. One has to remember that they probably didn't have the equipment back then to make good live shows, with a few exceptions.

@SixtiesPopGold SPG, you KNOW I love 60s groups such as they, it IS funny to see that and REALIZING alot of funny things take place, for acample, the singer pauses but the recorded voice of the singer play son then the singer catches up again. The fact that the practice of miming on studio stage is the norm, I still don't understand why playing live is ruled out *leads not hooked up to their axes. Could it be they may not copy the exact sound as they did in the studio?!?
Comparing the Knickerbockers' work to other bands is an exercise in futility, as their recorded legacy as a whole definitely underscores. It more than stands on its own merits without having to name drop the work of others who had nothing to do with it.

@MikeBlitzMag I don't know. The Big T.N.T Show was sort of a follower up (late 1965). It's even better. I don't think it's been offcially released but it's quite common anyway on sites like Ebay. Search "Ronettes - Be My Baby" and you'll find a couple of versions here on YT. You can Google it was well.
