@CamaroAmx I'm a 3rd generation American. my great-grandfather (an SS soldier) on my mom's side left germany after WWII. he married in America and had children and somehow never got caught (as it was illegal for a nazi soldier, exspecialy a member of the SS to imagrate to the US following WWII). he died in the late 1950s.

my school taught german, french and spanish. even though i grew up in america, the 1st laugague i ever learned was german. i didn't learn english until i was in 1st grade. i had basicaly stopped using german around 12 years old. most of my older family members spoke german and very little english. most of them died by the time i was 12. now i'm 28 and can barely speak any german at all. but i can still understand some german if it is spoken to me (never learned to write in german).
