As I was heading out just prior to 10:00 a.m. I saw a large amount of water flowing over the street. I called Scotts Valley PD to inform them but continued towards Santa Cruz. When I discovered Highway 17 was closed, I returned to the scene.

  • @deeblooz Yeah, it was moving pretty fast! It definitely cut under the road in two places. The upper portion is undercutting the pavement by a foot or so at least, with a decent sized vertical drop. The lower slide took out half the lane as you can see in the video. It exposed two pipes under the roadway, looks like telephone and fiber optic possibly. We have no natural gas lines to these neighborhoods as far as I know, so it wasn't as much of a danger.

  • Whoa!!! That is moving FAST!! Will undermine the road on the low side
