Question:
When you say "slip one purl wise", am I supposed to do a purl stitch or just slip like I was going to purl stitch it?

Just slip it like you were going to purl it. You won't actually make a new stitch, just put your needle into the stitch and move it over.

Thanks! this is the best brioche demo I've found! I just wanted something simple for a scarf, and had my heart set on brioche, but couldn't figure out how to do it! You rock. 5 brioches to you.

How would you bind off this pattern? K1P1? K all? Thank you for your answer.

I'm so confused-- I keep getting less stitches. I started out with 26 and now I'm at the end of the second row and I have 21???

This stitch works with a multiple of 3. Otherwise your stitch count will be off after your first row. Try a row with 24 or 27 and see if that helps.

Hello!
Thanks for the demo. I searched for many videos to help with the brioche stitch and yours really clicked for me.

I have two questions for you. What type of cast on do you reccommend? What does your prep row consist of? (i've found many conflicting ideas on this).

Thanks so much!

Thanks! I believe I used a standard longtail cast on for this scarf, although I'm also partial to the cable cast on.

I also read a lot of conflicting thoughts on prep rows, but in the end, I found I didn't need one at all. Many instructions start you with a prep row in a multiple of two to work up to a multiple of three, but I launched right in with the pattern on a multiple of three and it looked quite neat.

Lamb's Pride Burly Spun is 130 yards a hank for about $16 for solid colors or about $22 for variegated (as seen here). It's expensive compared to acrylics of a similar weight (I think Lion Brand has one), but that's to be expected for 100% wool. I did get this yarn for half off of retail. Let's hear it for sales!
