First off, I'd like to thank the youtube users I got a lot of this footage from. It wouldn't be possible without you guys! Anyway, this is a video of the greatest player in NHL history, Bryan McCabe. There is nobody who will ever get even close to the amazingness of #24, as he is a Toronto Maple Leaf and all Maple Leafs are brilliant. /sarcasm

Seriously though, I'm a Leafs fan who thinks McCabe is garbage and here is my tribute to the nothing he's done. Enjoy!

McCabe was selected by the New York Islanders in the second round (40th overall) in the 1993 NHL Entry Draft.

In his junior hockey years, McCabe played for the Medicine Hat Tigers (1991-1993), the Spokane Chiefs (1993-1995), and the Brandon Wheat Kings (1995) of the Western Hockey League. In 1994-1995, McCabe was chosen as a First-Team WHL All-Star. Additionally, he was a member of the Gold Medal-winning Canadian national teams at the World Junior Championships in both 1994 and 1995.

McCabe played for the New York Islanders, the Vancouver Canucks, and the Chicago Blackhawks before joining the Maple Leafs in 2000.

He finished fourth in Norris Trophy voting and was named to the Second All-Star Team at the culmination of the 2003-04 season. He signed with HV71 of the Swedish Elitserien when it was announced that the NHL season was facing a lockout. McCabe struggled in the Swedish Elite League and was fired from HV71 after accumulating a total of 1 goal and 0 assists in 10 games with 30 penalty minutes.

He was recognized as the NHL's Offensive Player of the Week for the week of November 13-19, 2005. McCabe ended the year with 19 goals and 49 assists, good enough for third overall amongst defenceman scoring, behind Nicklas Lidstrom and Sergei Zubov.

On December 21, 2005, McCabe was named as a reserve for Team Canada at the 2006 Winter Olympics at Torino, Italy. On February 2, 2006, he was moved from the reserves to the official roster to replace an injured Ed Jovanovski. McCabe signed a 5-year deal worth $28.75 million with the Maple Leafs on June 28, 2006.

Bryan McCabe is a defenseman for the Toronto Maple Leafs. He is well-known for his slapshot, and less well-known for any sort of defensive skill. He is currently worth one-eighth of the Leafs' salary cap, along with bedfellow Tomas Kaberle. He has also played for Team Canada at the 2006 Winter Olympics and made it known that he hated the jerseys because they made him look svelte and trim like some Eurofag Swede and not enormous and manly as all good Canadian boys should.

A fierce rivalry was ignited between Bryan McCabe and the net (not to be confused with the empty net) on October 9, 2007, against the Carolina Hurricanes, when the Net viciously cross-checked McCabe as he was coming out from behind the Net. The hit passed a review by NHL disciplinarian Colin Campbell, much to his chagrin. Later in the game, McCabe was to throw a warning shot at the Net, barely missing it and partly infuriating but mostly confusing Vesa Toskala.

McCabe would have his revenge six days later while playing for the Sabres. Unsatisfied with giving another brazen warning to the net and scaring the everloving fuck out of Andrew Raycroft, McCabe blasted a wicked clearance into the Net with just 3.6 seconds left in overtime.

McCabe on Defense

What? Oh right, that time when he doesn't take slapshots. Yeah, this is when McCabe prefers to flounder around and hope that Kaberle makes a smooth pass to begin a breakout play.

McCabe as an Olympian

Look, we don't know why this happened or why he wasn't on the main powerplay unit. Let's pretend it never happened.

  • I really wish jefflered would repost "The greatest defenseman who ever lived". That was twice as good as this one.

  • Meh, I thought it was pretty terrible.

  • I'd like some of you bashers to take a look at McCabe's numbers this year. Get your heads out of your asses!

  • I'm happy he's doing much better. The point is, he didn't fit here. He has my total support in Florida, and that trade was a total Win-Win.

  • YES he made many embarrasing mistakes but every season he scored about 15 plus goals in the right net

sounds strange but ill be missing you mc cabe

  • i still think toronto got ripped off with that trade.

  • Mccabe was a great d man, him and Kaberle were ranked as one of the best d pairings in the league at that time, Kaberle passes to Mccabe and Mccabe wires it right in, he was known around the NHL for his fearsom hard shot from the blue line, he did good things in Toronto. But even in his own words he`s in his dog years now, his play may have gone down, but that doesn`t change my impression of him as a defender in the NHL.

  • 1:15 o god really? ur a grown man and ur gonna do the its not me its the sticks fault? o no, i know we got him for practically nothing from florida but i got a horrible vision of mccabe coughing the puck up in a tie game with 2 mins left during an elimination game at the garden. god help us ranger fans.

  • DL the audio from this song at thetunify doht cohm.

  • I'm a Habs fan and honestly I'm REALLY going to miss McCabe, seeing him on the ice for the blue and white was like christmas. I'm just glad they've stocked up on other useless defensemen in attempt to fill the void :)

Jefflered this videos sick, showed it to all the hockey fans I know and they agree. Hats off good job.

  • McCabe SUCKS!!!!

  • it's not that hard to make a video of the failures of others. he made some shitty plays, everyone knows. guarantee your no better

  • McCabe sucks

  • @MikeyGates26 oh, well if he's your cousin, then I like him now, my mistake

  • It's not all McCabe's fault that the Toronto Maple Leafs have lost to the Buffalo Sabres 10 times in a row now...

... though he clearly does suck. I wonder if he has the ability to cost the Leafs dearly while not even playing for them anymore? Only he can pull that off, so we'll just have to wait and see.

  • Nah, if anyone needs one, its you. McCabe was overrated in his time here. He was overpaid in his time here. Both of these facts were the points the vid and now-dead-site tried to prove.

To say he's the second worst d-man, even just defensively, in the league is absurd. He's reasonably decent at defensive play. Its just that reasonably decent =/= $5.75M a year.
