If they don't have the GUTS to stand up to their oppressors- even if they're their parents- then they deserve what they get. If religion means more to the parents than their children, then screw them. I grew up in a controlling religion similar to the Exclusive Brethren and I left it. @polarphilately what a stupid dumb comment you made, they are treated with cruelty because they can no longer see the members of their family, parents can't see their children, and visa versa, its more then just leaving a church group, you are treated like a leaper when you leave, its so sad when a religion turns parents against their own children just because they have decied to have different views.

Acccording to a Wikpedia article about the Exclusive Brethren: "Members who leave or who are expelled from the group have often been treated with what outsiders may regard as great cruelty." My question is, how can they be treated with cruelty if they're no longer members or are expelled? Why would they still be around the members if they're no longer a member? That makes no sense. If I left a group, I wouldn't be around its members anymore, end of story.
