From the port side of stern deck 5, I was filming our departure from Hong Kong without comprehending what unfolded until later. About half way though this film, you will see the camera shake as our cruise ship went hard astern and starboard bow for collision avoidance. You can see the little "Twinkling Star" ferry first dart under the bow of our ship, and then suddenly reverse and come scampering back to the shoreline (pant pant!). You can see the ferry mast bent over a bit, as it actually touched the bow of our ship; collision was that close ! Anyway all's well that end's well, and we continued on our way....although I imagine all the passengers on that particular Star ferry used the local Chinese laundry that night ! For those who are curious, it was the Star ferry that was in the wrong in this situation. There is another film on Youtube from someone on shore, that much more dramatically shows this close call.
Look at the way the Star Ferry had to "dive" ahead of your ship and ended up nowhere near the Star Ferry Terminal!
Very poor seamanship!
