Ford Motor Company introduced the Mustang on April 16, 1964 with a commercial, shot at the New York World's Fair, that ran simultaneously on all three networks.

The next day, Ford dealerships were jammed and the Pony car craze was underway.

  • I believe the first Ford Mustang went on dealer showroom floors the same day the 1964 New York World's Far opened.

  • @altfactor I think you're right. This commercial was shown simultaneously on all 3-networks, there were only 3 at that time, and made quite a splash.

  • This is NOT the first Mustang commercial. A good one however.

  • @Sidewinder428 I've always thought this was the first. Can you point us to the first? This was the one that was shown on all 3 networks the night before the Mustang hit the showrooms. There may have been some teaser spots done but Ford says this was the first Mustang commercial. Please let us know what you find or have heard.

  • all the dam sub frames are shot to hell on 60s mustangs here in michigan, dammm road salt !

  • I know, that's one of the things I noticed when I moved back to California from Michigan --- all of the 60s and some 50s cars that were still on the road. No rust. Road salt is rust's best friend. But it brings people back to the dealerships every few years to replace their rusted heaps.

  • can you believe that car started it all

  • @lennymahoney Too young! Can't beat an original :)

  • @jetlag51 I'll sell you a fully restored 68 convertible when I'm done with it :D

  • The 64 1/2 thur 1966 Mustangs rode like a two horse wagon.

  • I might be restoring a 1964 or 65 mustang sometime soon. I don't know if it's standard or automatic, but I know it's a hard-top. I kinda wish it was a convertable :(

  • Love that car.

  • @Golfer93Pro don't blame the salt! people don't wash their cars properly and don't use undebody wax.

  • This is back when cars were cars.

    Not junk like today.
