THAT BLOWS.

@BurnScarred Completely sympathetic to your situation and I hope that ACell in Colombia, MD will be able to grow entire fingers with their matrix powder. They can grow tips of fingers and thumbs and have done so. I do not agree though about Obama. His ratings have never been lower than W's and it was W/Dick Cheney that bankrupt the country in the first place.

@Oblivionsurveyor - I can relate to that

i just had part of my finger amputated (index top 1/3) the doctor says it will smooth out to look more like a real finger. But right now it looks very jagged and un-even. Is this normal?
This happened to me about 2 weeks ago. How long til the pain/tenderness stops for the most part?

@anthonysob4 - it should smooth out like he stated. did they give you the silicon sleeve to help keep the finger more narrow? I had to have two of mine revised due to scarring. the sensitivity takes a good while after the stitches are out. you basically need to tap the tip an a table day after day. each day it gets better, and after a while it feels normal, and very little pain.

@BurnScarred yah im getting the stitches out in about an hour, and u say it will still be pretty sensitive? What was this silicone sleeve like did it irritate or hurt at all? Is tapping the tip on the table kinda like PT for evening the finger out? Does it hurt to tap the finger and how long should I wait until after the stitches out before I begin tapping?

@anthonysob4 - the bone is what is sensitive because it's not used to being the finger tip. by tapping the end on a table it tells the body that the bone needs to be more dense, so the more you do it the more dense the "now tip" gets. I started with a tennis ball, throwing it up and catching it on the end, and moved towards harder objects. now I can hit the tip of the fingers (stumps) on a wood table just like hitting it with your knuckles. otherwise you hit your finger a lot and it hurts

I should note that I finally got prosthetic fingers 5 years and 2 weeks after the accident, and it was hard to adjust to the longer length. the first 6 months after the amputation is the hardest (tying shoes, buttons etc) but you adjust very quickly to the point that its normal. as for the sleeve, that is used to help keep the tips from getting too fat (they are shrinkers) and are not painful to wear. it also can help to cut and sew up your gloves for custom fit.
